One of the essential outputs of this project is a publication intended for a museum professionals and museums. The publication will be free distributed in Portuguese museums in a limited edition. It is thought as a toolkit with a collection of case-studies, which present each, in a rather factual way, examples of artistic interventions in museums or artistic works that have confronted in an applied way with particular museologic collections, institutional histories or historic contexts. Each of these case-studies chrystalizes a particular innovative approach or strategy that deals with history telling and museologic display - both in relation to content production and communication.
Systematising methodologies that provoke reflection is an important de-colonising tool. In this sense, the volume systematizes, theorizes and designs recommendations for heritage institutions of how to involve contemporary art, and especially conceptual art – as a method to work with history in an inclusive, de-colonising and creative way. The main aim is to offer through this publication solutions towards progressive elimination of euro-centrism and towards introducing into the museologic display knowledge production related to present social reality.
This toolkit is therefor also an hommage to the interdisciplinary and politically aware approach of global conceptual art from the Global South and the Global North, as revolutionary visions on how history can be re-written, including micro-narratives and punctual interventions.
The volume contains examples from the beginning of the 20th century until today's post-conceptualism.
